Hopman Cup: Serena versus Roger at Hopman Cup 2019!

After Serena Williams has ended her 2018 season prematurely again, it is now clear where she will start in 2019.

Probably the last edition of the popular Mixed World Championship, it has a strong field: In addition to Williams and Tiafoe, title defender Roger Federer with Belinda Bencic and Angelique Kerber alongside Alexander Zverev will also be at the start.

Federer and Williams will participate in the Hopman Cup together for the first time and will compete against each other on New Year’s Day.

The Hopman Cup first took place in 1989 in memory of the legendary Aussie coach Harry Hopman. 2019 will apparently be the last edition – the following year the Australian summer will start with the new ATP World Team Cup. The extent to which Perth will play in this context is still open.

However, the ITF is planning a new type of mixed tournament in the week following the Miami Masters Tournament in spring, details of which are not yet known.
