WTA: After quarter-final entry: Caroline Wozniacki also buys Singapore ticket

Australian Open winner Caroline Wozniacki has secured her ticket to the WTA finals in Singapore (from 21 October) by moving into the quarter-finals of the Beijing tournament.

The world number two from Denmark had to fight 1:51 hours on the Lotus Court before the 7:5, 6:4 victory over Anett Kontaveit (Estonia) was won. Wozniacki is now the fifth player to qualify for the WTA final in Singapore after Angelique Kerber (Kiel), Simona Halep (Romania), Naomi Osaka (Japan) and Petra Kvitova (Czech Republic).

In the round of the last eight Wozniacki will meet qualifier Katerina Siniakova (Czech Republic) on Friday, who defeated Kiki Bertens from the Netherlands, who was seeded eleventh, 6:4, 6:3.

Wozniacki, who won the title at the China Open in 2010, lost five set points in the first round 5:4. Kontaveit, handicapped by a thigh injury, was able to compensate once again. But after more than an hour the favourite took the opening set.

Then Wozniacki took the lead 4:2, but he took the rebreak and had to accept the 4:4 equalizer. Subsequently, the 28-year-old took the liberty against the world rankings-21. But Kontaveit hardly made any mistakes. Which was rewarded with the quarter-finals and the early Singapore qualifying.

Wozniacki had won the WTA final last year. In the final she won 6:4, 6:4 against Venus Williams (USA).
