WTA: Formula 1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton challenges Serena Williams
Four-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton makes no secret of his enthusiasm for tennis. Now the Brit has challenged his friend Serena Williams. In written form. I wonder if the 23-time Major winner will respond to that.
At the Wimbledon finale in mid-July, Lewis Hamilton sat in Serena Williams’ box filled to capacity. The world championship leader had made himself comfortable between fashion queen Anna Wintour and golf star Tiger Woods.
And Hamilton was visibly feverish. Alone – it helped nothing, because Williams defeated Angelique Kerber on that sunny Saturday afternoon relatively clearly in two sets.
Perhaps the 33-year-old had the idea to challenge his friend, the great Serena, personally. Now Hamilton really dared and twittered to the address of Serena Williams translated quite freely: “I’m the next one to go”. He made a video that showed him playing tennis with his father and brother.
Not too harsh critics will find that Hamilton moves only marginally more elegantly on the racetracks of this world than with the racket on the orange carpet in an English tennis hall. However: He seems to play the forehand cut more often – snipped, as they say. A horror for any coach who is a little technical.
And if Serena doesn’t show any interest in a fight with the Mercedes pilot…maybe Tiger Woods has the time for a round of golf with Hamilton. In any case, the good Lewis doesn’t seem to lack motivation.
