ATP: Struff triumphs in doubles; Marach/Pavic lose
Jan-Lennard Struff has won the double competition in Tokyo alongside Ben McLachlan. For Oliver Marach, on the other hand, it was a defeat together with Mate Pavic.
Struff and McLachlan prevailed against the duo Raven Klaasen and Michael Venus. With the 6:4 and 7:5 victory, local hero McLachlan was able to defend the title in the Japanese capital.
Struff and McLachlan were able to defuse and win all five break possibilities of their opponents, although they made three points less than their opponents over the whole game. “They were better in the second set, but we’re happy to have won the title,” Struff said.
At the ATP-500 tournament in Beijing there was no reason to cheer for the German-speaking fans. The Austrian Oliver Marach and the Croatian Mate Pavic clearly lost against Lukas Kubot and Marcelo Melo.
Marach/Pavic did not manage a single break and had to serve three times. After only a little more than an hour, the Pole and the Brazilian had fixed the 6:1 and 6:4 triumph.
