WTA: Wozniacki beats Sevastova and wins the title in Beijing!
Caroline Wozniacki from Denmark wins the tournament in Beijing. In the final, the Australian Open winner won against Anastasija Sevastova 6:3 and 6:3.
In the first set Wozniacki could take her opponent’s serve at 3:2 for the first time. The 28-year-old could not take this advantage and won the first run 6:3.
In the entire first set, the Danish player was not confronted with a single break opportunity. This lack of opportunity in Wozniacki’s serve should change for Sevastova in the second game of the second section.
The Latvian won two break possibilities, but could not use any of them. This should take revenge immediately: Wozniacki broke to 2:1 and doubled the lead with another service breakthrough to 4:1.
But Sevastova did not give up and used her fifth break opportunity to reduce the score to 2:4. She also won the following service game.
The Latvian remained stubborn and played three more break chances. But Wozniacki was able to fend off all of them and raise the score to 5:3.
After this moment of shock, however, the Danish player played free again and won the tournament in the Chinese capital with her third match point. After 90 minutes the 6:3 and 6:3 success was certain. It’s the 30th tournament win in her career for the second place in the world rankings.
