Masters Shanghai: Novak Djokovic takes hurdle to the Fourth Filament
Novak Djokovic reached the quarter-finals of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Shanghai and beat Marco Cecchinato 6-4 and 6-0.
The emotions at Novak Djokovic cooked up early in the round of sixteen in Shanghai. At the score of 1:1 the Serbian worked his way up to 40:40 and was then interrupted by the chair referee with an overrule. The referee was wrong, the point was repeated and finally went to Cecchinato.
A further loss of points completely upset the “Djoker”, who then thundered his club with full force into the court. After the breakaway, the emotions calmed down on the center court and the match continued with break points on both sides. Neither Djokovic nor Cecchinato could use their chances to take the lead.
At 3-3 Djokovic increased the pressure and forced his opponent to make mistakes, who finally had to give up his service game. After 46 minutes, Djokovic served up a 6-4 set win and was one step closer to the quarter-finals.
Djokovic, three-time Shanghai winner, did not let up and grabbed the serve of the Italian, who made too many mistakes, at the start of set two. Another break to 3:0 was the preliminary decision and Djokovic did not let his lead be taken away.
For Cecchinato the maximum penalty followed and was missed by the seemingly overpowering Djokovic a smooth 6:0 in set two.
With a fully deserved 6-4 and 6-0 win in the end, the third-placed player from the world rankings has the chance to win his fourth title at the Rolex Masters in the Chinese capital.
