Masters Shanghai: Stefanos Tsitsipas has to pack his bags against Kevin Anderson

For Stefanos Tsitsipas, the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Shanghai has ended prematurely. The young Greek had to admit defeat to the South African Kevin Anderson with 4:6 and 6:7 (1).

For the up-and-coming youngster Stefanos Tsitsipas, the Shanghai adventure has ended prematurely. Tsitsipas looked a bit tired at the beginning against the experienced South African Kevin Anderson and paid tribute to the exhausting match against Karen Khachanov the day before.

Anderson made the most of his chances and quickly took the lead 3-0 in the first run. At the score of 5:2 for Anderson, the first set was once again exciting: Anderson lost his service game, Tsitsipas won his next and set to 4:5.

However, the young Greek could not use the momentum and promptly gave up his serve to lose the set 4:6.

With a coral-coloured hair band in his hair, Tsitsipas took new courage at the beginning of the second run and attacked the South African’s serve with moderate success. Anderson served well and scored some free points.

Tsitsipas could not be shaken off and put a few more percent on his performance. The result was a high-class game at eye level, in which Tsitsipas in particular often had the better answer and defended at the baseline great.

The decision in passage two was made in the tiebreak. Anderson got the better start and got points with double errors from Tsitsipas. The 31-year-old did not give up his fast 5-0 lead and was the deserved winner with a 6:4, 7:6 (1) at the end.

Anderson meets Novak Djokovic in the quarter-finals and can take a small revenge for the lost US Open final.
