WTA: Petkovic also defeats Kristina Mladenovic
Andrea Petkovic continues her successful run at the WTA tournament in Linz. In the quarter-finals the German defeated Kristina Mladenovic 6:1 and 6:3.
After successes against the top seeded Julia Görges and Tatjana Maria, the Darmstadt player started the match against Mladenovic full of self-confidence. After only 25 minutes Petkovic led 5-0 and played her opponent almost completely against the wall.
After that Dominic Thiem’s girlfriend was able to secure her first game, but at the end of the first set this shouldn’t change anything. Petkovic served to zero and won the first run 6:1.
“Petko” wanted to put a pinprick in the second section as well, but in a marathon game Mladenovic could fend off all six break points and take the lead 1-0. In the fifth game, however, the time had come for Petkovic to take the service from the French woman to 3:2.
With another break to zero Petkovic took the lead 5:2. In front of her boyfriend’s eyes, the 25-year-old did not want to be beaten yet without a fight, however, she broke for 3:5 from her point of view. But in the following service game everything was as it was: Petkovic broke out and fixed his entry into the semi-finals by winning 6:1 and 6:3.
There she waits for the winner of the game between Anastasija Pavlyuchenkova and Ekaterina Alexandrova. In its current form, the 31-year-old can definitely be expected to reach the final.
In the other semi-final, Alison van Uytvanck and Camila Girogi will meet. Both were able to hold their own in their quarter-final encounters in three contested sets.
