WTA: Victories against Svitolina and Muguruza: Qiang Wang wins Hong Kong double shift
Chinese Qiang Wang defeated two top players on Saturday and is in the final of the WTA International in Hong Kong.
Qiang Wang remains one of the hottest players of tennis autumn 2018: The 26-year-old first won her abandoned quarter-final match against top seed Elina Svitolina 6-2, 6-4 on Saturday in Hong Kong, later she also triumphed in the semi-final over two-time major champion Garbine Muguruza 6-7 (5), 6-4, 7-5 and is thus in the final of the event endowed with 750,000 US dollars.
In her fourth WTA final she will meet the unseeded Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska, currently number 102 in the world rankings.
Since August of this year, Wang has moved up from a position outside the top 50 to 24th place, thanks in part to her strong performances in the Asia Swing: In recent weeks, she has already won the WTA tournament in Guangzhou and reached the semi-finals at the tournaments in Hiroshima, Wuhan and Beijing.
