Tennis: broken kneecap! End of season for del Potro

Juan Martin del Potro has to end the season on the ATP Tour prematurely. As the Argentinian’s management announced on Sunday evening, the 30-year-old suffered a break in his right kneecap at the Masters in Shanghai against Croat Borna Coric in the round of 16.

This means that del Potro will not be able to participate in the ATP Final (11 to 18 November) in London.

“I am very sad, because that is a bitter setback. It’s very difficult for me to think about the process of recovery now. I didn’t think this would happen again,” del Potro said.

Four wrist surgeries had significantly impaired the career of the 2009 US Open winner. The Argentinian had recently played his way back to the top of the world league, losing the US Open final in September to Serbian Novak Djokovic.
