ATP: Interwetten-Favoritencheck: Who has the best chances in Vienna?
The stars of the tour meet at the ATP tournament in Vienna and duel for the title in the 500cc event at the Erste Bank Open. Betting provider Interwetten.com checks your favourites for you and takes a close look at local hero Dominic Thiem und Co.
The ATP-500 tournament is on the agenda and the stars around Dominic Thiem and Co. will be present at the annual showdown. The starter field includes top-class stars and stumbling blocks from the NextGen category.
Dominic Thiem: Has the local hero finally broken his knot? The previous appearances in his homeland were not crowned with success for Lichtenwörther. This is expected to change this year.
The 25-year-old is very popular with the bookmakers and is of course the favourite of the domestic fans in the race for the title. The constitution of the “Dominator” gives hope and clearly pushes Thiem among the top favourites in the Vienna Stadthalle.
With a win against Richard Gasquet at the start, a bit of self-confidence in his luggage and the fans behind him, Thiem can make it far this year. It is well known that players can carry cheers from their own ranks to titles!

Kevin Anderson: A little unfortunate last year, the South African is the clear number two in the race for the Vienna title this year. With another strong season and good results in the past weeks, the service giant must always be expected.
The fast surface in Vienna plays Anderson into the cards. With his strong serve and fast, smooth base strokes, the conditions in Austria’s capital are tailored to the profile of the two-metre man.
Anderson will have a say in the fight for the title.
Kei Nishikori: Somewhat surprisingly, the injury-prone Japanese is found in the co-favorite role in Vienna. With great results in the second half of the hard court season – crowned with the semi-finals at the US Open – Nishikori has returned to the top of the world.
If the 28-year-old in Vienna remains symptom-free and the Japanese’s body plays along, the competition should warm up.
Borna Coric: The Croatian probably belongs more in the category of the top favorites, the results of the past weeks are considered.
The 21-year-old played his first final game in Shanghai, where he was given a chance against Novak Djokovic. Nevertheless, Coric is probably the hottest file on the current tennis market. A little under the radar, the Croatian has moved up to 13th place in the world rankings and is ready to take on the big names in the tennis circuit.
Borna Coric. Insider tip!
Kyle Edmund: The Briton has the advantage in Vienna that with Thiem and Co. prominent names are on the draw. The hustle and bustle should therefore be diverted away from the 15th world rankings.
So Edmund can play without much pressure and secretly play his way into the decisive rounds. Edmund’s appearance in Vienna did not go as planned in the previous year’s edition. Maybe it’ll work this time.
