ATP: Isner loses in Stockholm; Monfils in Antwerp in finals

Gael Monfils is in the final of Antwerp! The charismatic Frenchman defeated Diego Schwartzman in two sets and will face Kyle Edmund in the final. In Stockholm John Isner missed the final and at the tournament in Moscow Karen Khachanov fights for the home triumph.

Khachanov defeated his compatriot Daniil Medvedev 6:1, 6:7 (5) and 6:3. In the final, the Russian, who will serve in Vienna next week and will play Austrian Dennis Novak in the first round, will play Adrian Mannarino. The Frenchman won against the Italian Andreas Seppi with 7:5 and 7:5.

Mannarino’s Davis Cup colleague Gael Monfils was also able to assert himself in his semi-final. At the 250cc tournament in Antwerp, he defeated Diego Schwartzman 6-3 and 6-4. In the Vienna starter duel, Monfils beat ten strong aces and had to accept only one break against the Argentinian with the strong return.

In the final showdown, Monfils will now face Kyle Edmund. The Briton beat Richard Gasquet (FRA) 6:3 and 6:4.

At the event in Stockholm, the two top seeded players were eliminated in the semi-finals. Both John Isner (USA) and Fabio Fognini (ITA) had to pack their bags.

For US-Boy Isner the 6:1, 3:6 and 3:6 defeat against the Latvian Ernests Gulbis means a small setback in the fight for a ticket to the ATP final in London. Stefanos Tsitsipas also wants to make the leap to the year-end tournament in the British capital.

But due to the enormous gap (more than 1000 points on Isner) the Greek needs an extraordinary final sprint. He could take the first step with a tournament win in Stockholm. After a 6:3 and 6:2 victory against Fabio Fognini, he is at least once in the final.
