WTA Finals: Wozniacki writes in Singapore – Three-set win over Kvitova

Caroline Wozniacki has kept her chance to defend her title at the WTA Finals in Singapore. The Danes defeated Petra Kvitova and will play against Elina Svitolina on Thursday to make it to the semi-finals.

Caroline Wozniacki still has a chance to repeat her coup of twelve months ago: this year’s Australian Open winner beat Petra Kvitova 7-5, 3-6 and 6-2 in her second group match at the WTA final in Singapore, and thus played an early final against Elina Svitolina.

In their first appearances, both players had disappointed – and each won only six games. Kvitova against Elina Svitolina, Wozniacki against Karolina Pliskova. In the duels against each other Kvitova had the nose in front before the start of the game, led with 8:5 victories against her Danish opponent.

Wozniacki had good chances to finish the first act after 35 minutes, she served at 5:3 on the set win, missed at 40:30 the chance to lead. Kvitova had another idea, took the break and equalled it 5-5. Only to sink a forehand into the net two games later. 7:5, Wozniacki.

Kvitova was successful in the second run and quickly took a break advantage, which she didn’t give away. However, Wozniacki did not make so many mistakes in the decision and was congratulated by her opponent after 2:19 hours.
