ATP: Rafael Nadal withdraws in Paris-Bércy due to abdominal muscle injury

Rafael Nadal has cancelled his start at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Paris-Bércy. The Spaniard withdrew before the first round match against Fernando Verdasco.

Behind the use of the world number one there were already bigger question marks. Nadal had had to give up in the semi-final of the US Open against Juan Martin del Potro and had stayed away from the competition on the ATP Tour ever since. Whether the Spaniard will be fit for the ATP Final in London in two weeks remains to be seen.

The reason for the withdrawal at the last ATP Masters 1000 tournament of the year was not the blessierte knee, but problems with the abdominal muscles. Nadal’s place in the tableau is taken by Lucky Loser Malek Jaziri.

Milos Raonic could also not compete in his match against Roger Federer: The Canadian withdrew after his marathon victory against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga because of an elbow injury.
