WTA: Sabine Lisicki – Challenger in Taipei at the end of a (renewed) epidemic season

Sabine Lisicki has another poor season behind her, injuries threw the Germans back again and again. Now a Challenger tournament in Taipei is supposed to bring some reparation to the end of the season.

Bad luck is almost an understatement in Sabine Lisicki’s case. The 2013 Wimbledon finalist was again set back by many injuries and played only 23 games in the entire calendar year.

The year began promisingly for the 29-year-old: healthy and without complaints, Lisicki played her way into the semi-finals of the WTA tournament in Taipei. Then the next setback. After shoulder, knee and wrist injuries in recent years, another injury forced “Bum-Bum-Biene” to take a break once again.

Lisicki missed out on the Australian Open and only returned to the stage in Indian Wells. Under the Californian sun, Indian Wells suffered a defeat at the start of the race, and Miami suffered its next injury – hard to believe. In the third set Lisicki had to throw the towel with a foot injury and missed all tournaments until the Wimbledon opening.

I had such a great time the last time I was in Taipei and so many fans supported me,” Lisicki explained in the social media.
