ATP: Rieisge Award: Herwig Straka elected to ATP Tournament Board!
Huge award for Herwig Straka! The Graz-based company was elected as European representative to the ATP Tournament Board. The tournament director of the ATP tournament in Vienna is now a member of the highest committee of the players’ association.
Straka replaces Englishman Mark Webster, who has represented Europeans on the highest ATP committee since 2010. The ATP Tournament Board currently consists of two player representatives, three four gymnast representatives and CEO Chris Kermode. Normally there is a third player on the team, but Roger Rasheed was recently expelled from the committee.
The European, American and international tournaments each have a representative of their interests on the board of the players’ association. Herwig Straka will fight for the European side in the future.
To date, the Graz native has acted together with Julien Boutter, Christer Hult, Sergio Palmieri and Mark Webster in the so-called “Tournament Council” of the ATP. Now he will be the stakeholder of this group.
On the players’ side, ex-pro Justin Gimelstob and lawyer Alex Inglot are on the team, and a third player is currently being sought. On the tournament side, Gavin Forbes has been working for the Americans since 2008, the international group is represented by Charles Humphrey Smith. Chris Kermode completes the highest committee of the ATP as president.
