ATP Finals: Mike Bryan and Jack Sock triumph in doubles
The American tennis pros Mike Bryan and Jack Sock have won the double title at the ATP season finals in London.
The US duo beat the French Nicolas Mahut and Pierre-Hugues Herbert 5:7, 6:1, 13:11 in the final on Sunday. Bryan and Sock had already led with 9:5 in the match tiebreak, but the French could get back to the match and had a match point themselves in the meantime.
Sock had reached the semi-finals in the singles last year, but had slipped far in the world rankings this season.
For Mike Bryan it was already the fifth victory in the tournament of the season’s eight best double teams. He had won the first four titles alongside his recently injured twin brother Bob. Record holders in the doubles are John McEnroe and Peter Fleming (USA), who prevailed seven times between 1978 and 1984.
When Bob Bryan (40), who has survived a hip operation, returns in the coming season, the twins will also be reunited on the court. Together they have won 16 Grand Slam titles, more than any other team in the history of professional tennis (since 1968). They also won Olympic gold in London in 2012.
