ATP: That’s why Andy Murray still drives his old Polo
Andy Murray has around 100 million euros on the high edge – but he simply doesn’t want to part with his VW Polo.
Wife Kim has already asked him several times to finally sell, but Murray doesn’t want to. The reason: The VW Polo was his first car and he learned to drive with it. “I’ve had him for nine years now,” says Murray. “I like riding with him, I feel connected to him.”
He bought a Ferrari in 2009. “It was probably the only time in my life that I gave in to the pressure of my colleagues. I gave it back after eight or nine weeks. I didn’t enjoy driving it – I never did it after all,” says Murray. It was a great car, but it made him feel like a fool.
Murray has a slightly more luxurious body next to the Polo but still in the garage: a Jaguar I-Pace, an electric car he got from his sponsor. “I have two children, and the I-Pace is good for them.”
And the most important thing, keyword tennis professional: Both cars are optimal when it comes to sports equipment. “It fits both of them in the trunk.”
