WTA: Boris Becker has a “very good feeling” with Team Kerber/Schüttler
Boris Becker has a “very good feeling” when he thinks of the cooperation between Wimbledon winner Angelique Kerber and her new coach Rainer Schüttler.
“Rainer is a top man, I’ve always wondered why he wasn’t approached by a player much earlier,” said the three-time Wimbledon winner to SID: “He brings all the qualities of a top coach.
The 42-year-old shaker is “absolutely flawless” in both human and professional terms, said Becker: “In terms of mentality and character, he and Angie Kerber are a perfect match. But of course it is “at the end of the day” up to the player herself where the journey goes: “She must know exactly what she wants to achieve,” said Becker.
After the separation from Wim Fissette, Kerber hired Rainer Schüttler, the former fifth in the world rankings, as his new coach. At a sponsor meeting last week in Cologne, the 30-year-old had seen the main responsibility for herself, just like Becker now: “Everything starts with me.”
