WTA: Serena Williams and Caro Wozniacki train together
Shared suffering is half suffering: Caroline Wozniacki and Serena Williams rely on joint units in their sweaty preparations for the season.
Club 39, a fitness temple in Monte Carlo, is also popular with tennis professionals. A good address in the principality. Alexander Zverev and Novak Djokovic also cross paths here during the season preparation. One talks, probably reports about the past vacation, the family, but probably doesn’t allow oneself to be looked into the cards too much in professional matters.
It’s different with Serena Williams and Caroline Wozniacki. They’ve been friends for years. The American helped the Dane through her marriage with golf star Rory McIlroy in 2014, which had burst on the home straight.
Williams was there for Wozniacki, she offered her variety, dragged her among other things to an NBA game of the New York Knicks against the Washington Wizards – popcorn and laughter attacks in the stands included.
When Wozniacki finished her first marathon in the Big Apple a good four years ago in a brilliant 3:26:33 hours, Williams was finishing with a white cap and could hardly hold back her tears about the success of “Caro”. She even made a video of her friend’s arrival.
The first week of the duo’s preparation for the 2019 season was now spent together. Wozniacki posted a photo of her with Williams after a unit. And the reigning Australian Open winner left no doubt that both are looking forward to the tennis year 2019.
World rank third Wozniacki starts her season at the tournament in Auckland (from 31 January). At the last edition of the ASB Classics in New Zealand she lost the final against Julia Görges 4:6, 6:7.
Serena Williams meets her older sister Venus at the Mubadala Championships in Abu Dhabi on 27 December. For the 37-year-old, it will be the second appearance at the exhibition event in the United Arab Emirates.
