Davis Cup: DTB boss Klaus assumes extension of contract with Kohlmann

DTB President Ulrich Klaus assumes that the contract with Davis Cup captain Michael Kohlmann will be extended.The 43-year-old had led the German team to class retention in Portugal.

“I think the goal is to keep him.I don’t see any reason why we should change that either.He did an excellent job on the weekend,”said the head of the German Tennis Association at Sky Sports News HD.

Klaus emphasized that negotiations had not yet been held, the focus had been on retaining the class in the world group until now.Last weekend, the German team won the Davis Cup in Oeiras with host Portugal 3:2 and thus prevented them from relegating from the group of the 16 best teams in the world.

DTB vice-president Dirk Hordorff immediately after the victory, DTB vice-president Dirk Hordorff had stated that a decision would be made in Kohlmann’s personnel department in the near future:”Boris Becker as Head of Men’s Tennis and sports director Klaus Eberhard will make a proposal to the presidency on how to proceed,” said Hordorff,”and I assume that the presidency will follow this proposal”.

Michael Kohlmann, a former Davis Cup player himself, took over the captain’s office in February 2015 as successor to the hapless Carsten Arriens.In September 2016, the contract was extended until 2017.The 43-year-old had received support in Portugal from the German tennis idol Boris Becker, who had been head of Men’s Tennis for the first time in Oeiras and had taken a seat in the box.
