WTA: Barthel clearly fails in Guangzhou because of Krunic

Mona Barthel has missed her first quarter-final entry on the WTA tour since the beginning of May.At the tournament in Guangzhou, China, the 27-year-old from Bad Segeberg was defeated in the round of the last 16 by the Serbian Aleksandra Krunic 4:6,0:6.

Krunic, who scored 65.14 places lower than Barthel in the world rankings, turned her first match point after an hour of play.

Barthel, who was the only German in Guangzhou to be in the main draw, had recently survived her second tournament match in Prague last spring, when she clinched her fourth career title in the Czech capital.
