WTA: Porsche Race to Singapore: Halep secures first place for himself

One winner of the WTA finals in Singapore has already been determined before the first serve: Simona Halep. The 26-year-old Romanian won the “Porsche Race to Singapore”, the official qualification for the super tournament with the eight most successful players of the season. The winner of the prize is a Porsche 911 Carrera GTS. The WTA Finals will take place from 22. till 29. October at the Singapore Sports Hub.

“This has been an incredible year for me. Being the Race to Singapore winner is a very proud moment,”says Simona Halep as she receives the keys to the carmine red 450 hp sports car. She has played the best season of her career in 2017, won the tournament in Madrid and reached the finals in Rome, Cincinnati and Beijing in addition to the French Open.

Since 9. October, she is the first Romanian ever to become the world’s new No. 1 tennis player and has now also set her sights high for the WTA Finals:”I hope that I can take my good form, which has put me at the top of the WTA Finals, to the WTA Finals and play my best tennis there as well”.

As part of its global partnership with WTA, Porsche became the new title partner of the “Porsche Race to Singapore” and exclusive automotive partner of WTA in April 2017. The automobile manufacturer has thus intensified its long-standing good cooperation with the players’ association.

For Porsche, sponsor of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart since 1978, and since 2002 also organizer of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart, which is regularly voted by the players as the most popular tournament in its category worldwide, this is a further step towards internationalization and the expansion of its successful involvement in women’s tennis.

The “Porsche Race to Singapore” is the official qualification ranking for the WTA Finals. The eight most successful single players and doubles are eligible to compete in the prestigious end-of-year tournament, which has been taking place in Singapore since 2014. The 16 best results of each player in the 57 tournaments of the year (53 WTA events and four Grand Slams) in 31 countries will be scored for the Porsche Race to Singapore. The player who leads the table at the end of the season with the most points is not only sure of a place in the WTA Finals. She is additionally rewarded with a sports car from the title partner.
