ATP: Sock and Isner win Indian Wells double title

Unranked Americans Jack Sock and John Isner provided a home triumph at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Indian Wells. The duo secured the double title with a 7:6 (7:4), 7:6 (7:2) victory in 1:27 hours against their compatriots Bob and Mike Bryan (No. 7).

Davis Cup players Sock and Isner won a total of 439,350 dollars. It was the couple’s greatest success since their coup at the ATP Masters 2016 in Shanghai:”It’s something very special for us. Above all because it is important for both of them to feel this feeling of victory again. This year we haven’t played so well in singles yet,” said the world ranked 18. Isner.

Bob and Mike Bryan had last won the”home game” in the Californian desert in 2014, when they started as defending champions. Sock and Isner did not give a single set in the four matches for the title. They are only the third pairing in the past 30 years to do so in Indian Wells.

Su-Wei Hsieh and Barbora Strycova surprisingly won the women’s trophy. The Taiwanese and Czech team won the final against top seeded Olympic champions Ekaterina Makarova/Elena Vesnina (Russia) 6-4, 6-4 and collected a total of 435,350 dollars. Hsieh and Strycova decided at the last second to start together for the first time: “She is very calm and I am very emotional. She made me stay calm. That worked great and was a good fit,” said Strycova about her chance partner Hsieh.
