US Open: ComeOn! Match of the day: Dominic Thiem in a crash against Rafael Nadal

In the quarter-finals of the US Open 2018, the world number one Rafael Nadal and Dominic Thiem will battle it out for the title. The new edition of the French Open Final is the ComeOn! Match of the day!

Only one day after his 25th birthday Dominic Thiem can make himself a late birthday present in Flushing Meadows. A win against Rafael Nadal would be just in time.

It doesn’t seem so unrealistic, as the 25-year-old has shown in the round of 16 that he is in great shape. The Lower Austrian defeated Kevin Anderson in an impressive manner and left no doubt about his ambitions in New York in a clear three-set victory.

However, against Nadal Austria’s number one will have to put on a shovel. In training on Monday morning Nadal devoted himself mainly to forehand cross. Makes sense, since Thiem is more vulnerable on the one-handed backhand than on his strong forehand. It will be a game of absolute world class when Thiem can tap his full potential.

The defeat in this year’s French Open final will be in the young Austrian’s mind. With great expectations the eyes were on Thiem in Paris, whom the 25-year-old could not live up to against an overpowering Nadal.

This is now to change. It is difficult to predict what kind of game plan the “Dominator” will be competing with. However, the motto must be to avoid slight mistakes as best as possible and not to give the Spaniard too many chances to win – here Nadal acts mercilessly as usual.

Betting provider ComeOn! sees the world’s number one as the favourite and gives Nadal a score of 1.25. Thiem enters the race for the semi-finals in Flushing Meadows with a surprisingly high 4.05 ratio.
