ATP: Good omen for Federer: Edelfan Wintour arrives in Melbourne

Actually, nothing stands in the way of Roger Federer’s further success at the Australian Open. Noble fan Anne Wintour, the boss of the fashion bible “Vogue”, will be at the first Grand Slam tournament of the year.

At the Wimbledon final in mid-July, Anne Wintour did not fulfil her role as a lucky charm. The unconventional and charismatic front woman of the fashion bible Vogue sat in the box of Serena Willams. Next to Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton – and not far from golf icon Tiger Woods. The celebrity density in “Team Serena” was enormous on this sunny Saturday afternoon.

It didn’t help the 23-time Grand Slam winner, Serena Williams lost the final on Church Road with 3:6, 3:6 against Angelique Kerber.

Wintour is also a good acquaintance of Roger Federer. In an essay on “tennis.com”, the 69-year-old British woman once wrote about the major record champion: “I flew around the world for his tournaments. Suffered when he was one set behind and came into ecstasy when he hit back. I even missed the occasional fashion shows just to watch Roger play. Roger, who is certainly the greatest tennis player of all time.”

Wintour will certainly be in Federer’s box again at the Australian Open. Just like so many times in New York or Paris. The sun-browned fashion pope always talks to Federer’s wife Mirka and his mother Lynette in a particularly lively way. And actually she (almost) always brought her “Rog” luck.

As part of the first Grand Slam event of the year, Wintour will give a lecture in the AO Inspirational Series on 24 January. This is about equal rights. Between the two women’s semi-finals she will also be honoured in the Rod Laver Arena.

“As a lifelong tennis fan who has watched this tournament on television from New York at all hours of the day and night for years, I am looking forward to travelling to Melbourne to watch my very first Australian Open up close,” Wintour said.
