WTA: Sharapova manager Max Eisenbud – “Maria has made the best of it”

Maria Sharapova attacks again in 2019. Their manager Max Eisenbud looks back on the time when his protégé was not allowed to actively participate in the tour.

Max Eisenbud manages a broad portfolio of players in world tennis – the most prominent of which is and remains Maria Sharapova. The Russian finished 2018 in 29th place in the WTA charts, having to cancel all her starts at the US Open due to several injuries after her defeat against Carla Suarez Navarro.

Since returning from the 2017 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart after being banned from doping, Sharapova has won a tournament in Tianjin at the end of last season. Next year, the five-time Major winner will also start in China, in Shenzhen.

In an interview with Entrepreneur magazine, Manager Eisenbud reflected once again on the past years of his protégé. “I won’t say that the ban was a good thing, but Maria made the most of that time,” said Eisenbud, who also has players like Madison Keys under his wing.

“The fact that her brand is so well positioned has allowed her to stay strong herself.”

And Max Eisenbud also finds nothing but praise for Maria Sharapova’s sweets line. “You can have a good idea, be creative and have a lot of energy, but you still can’t be successful if you don’t listen to the right consultants. Maria has in this time as hard as ever. And we have confirmed to our customers that Maria will continue to stand behind the brand.”
