ATP: Verdasco with coach newcomer into the year 2019

The Spaniard Fernando Verdasco will be on the tour from 2019 with a new coach. The 35-year-old announced the collaboration with Joaquin “Quino” Munoz-Hernandez.

Munoz-Hernandez is largely unknown on the tour and will be taking on new tasks in unknown realms. Verdasco and “Quino” Munoz-Hernandez both come from the Spanish capital Madrid and are also not far apart in age.

Verdasco, at 35, is the third oldest player on the Tour behind Roger Federer and Feliciano Lopez (both 37), while Munoz is his first coach at 43.

The Spaniard himself was active until the end of this season. Last year, the coach newcomer was one of the oldest active players to win a professional match. About 20 years ago Munoz-Hernandez experienced his personal career high and on 27.04.1998 he was ranked 157 in the world ranking.

“Oldie” Verdasco has been one of the top 40 players in the world for years and finished last season again among the top 30 players in the world. The left-hander has engaged not only Munoz-Hernandez but also Diego Dinomo, who has already worked with Andrea Hlavackova and Guillermo Garcia-Lopez, and fitness coach Chema Castillo.

Since 2016, the “man with the left adhesive” has been waiting for a tournament victory. More than two years ago Verdasco won the ATP event in Bucharest. Since then, the powerhouse has been plagued with minor injuries time and again.
