Doping: ITF-Block Brazilian

Due to a positive doping test, Brazilian tennis player Beatriz Haddad Maia will be suspended retroactively for ten months from July 22nd.

Brazilian tennis player Beatriz Haddad Maia has been suspended by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) for ten months retroactively from 22 July because of a positive doping test.

The 23-year-old has to return the prize money she received afterwards, and she will also lose the world ranking points she gained during this period.

Haddad Maia, who caused a stir last year with her first-round victory at Wimbledon against the future Australian Open finalist Garbine Muguruza (Spain), has decided not to open B-test.

She admitted to having taken contaminated food supplements. Two banned substances were detected in the A-sample.

In the past four years, three other Brazilian tennis professionals have been convicted of doping, including former top 30 player Thomaz Bellucci.

Beatriz Haddad Maia was ranked 147th in the world ranking before her suspension by the ITF, her highest position was 58th in September 2017. She has yet to win a tournament.
