Tennis star operated on an ankle
Fabio Fognini uses the corona forceps for arthroscopic interventions on both ankles. The Italian explains how the decision was made.
Fabio Fognini, the tennis world number one, used the corona compulsory break for an ankle operation.
On Saturday, the Italian underwent arthroscopic surgery on both ankles. On Twitter the 33-year-old posted a selfie from the hospital bed after the procedure and made the victory sign.
“I’ve had a problem with my left ankle for three and a half years, I’ve learned to deal with it. Then two years ago my right ankle also started causing problems,” Fognini told Instagram.
He had hoped to get better in the two months of lockdown, but the problems were still there even after resuming training.
Therefore it is “the right thing to have an operation while the tour is in the forced break”, Fognini continues.
No ATP and WTA tournaments are to be held until at least 31 July.
