WTA: Victoria Azarenka’s Plan- With new coach after Doha

Victoria Azarenka is planning her next comeback attempt – with a new coach: Vyacheslav Konikov, a compatriot of the former number one in the world, is to accompany Azarenka.

Next try in Doha: After Victoria Azarenka had to cancel her participation in both the WTA tournament in Auckland and the Australian Open due to the ongoing custody dispute over her son Leo, the Belarussian has now been booked by the organizers of the WTA tournament in Doha. Should the comeback of the former industry leader really come about, this will be done with a new coach at her side: Vyacheslav “Slava” Konikov is to accompany Azarenka where she has been a fixed component for years: at the very top of the world. This is reported by Sacramento Bee in its online edition.

Konikov is giving up his position as head coach of the tennis department of Sacramento State University, as the teaching institution announced in a press release. For more than twelve years Konikov had been leading the fortunes there, before that the Minsk-born coach was already on tour as a coach in professional tennis, among others at the side of double legend Max Mirnyi.
