ATP: Zverev brothers agree to start at BMW Open

Last year’s winner Alexander Zverev and his brother Mischa started at the BMW Open in Munich (30. April to 6. May).

“Munich fits very well into my tournament calendar this year from the entire set-up, so I’m happy to be able to serve my home crowd again,”said Alexander Zverev, fifth in the world rankings.

“I like to remember my win back in Munich. The tournament is a great place for me, the fans are great and I just always play good tennis. Thanks to the organizers for asking me to come back again,”said Zverev, looking forward to the high-class clay court tournament in which he was already in the semi-finals on MTTC Iphitos’ Center Court in 2016,”of course it’s my goal to defend the title,”continues the 1.98-metre world-class player.

Last year, the Hamburg player had triumphed against Argentinean Guido Pella in the final, and in 2015 the Zverev brothers were together in the double final at the ATP tournament:”We always feel very comfortable in Munich, we usually arrive a few days earlier. The courts are always in excellent condition and the altitude allows for an intensive training. The spectators here are very knowledgeable and at the same time create a great atmosphere,”says 30-year-old Mischa Zverev, who also had his most successful year in 2017 and climbed to 25th place in the ATP world ranking.

A few days earlier Philipp Kohlschreiber (Augsburg) had already confirmed his start. The 34-year-old won the clay court tournament in 2007,2012 and 2016. This year’s prize money is a record price money. With 561,345 euros, the 250 ATP tournament is more than ever before.
