ATP: ATP investigates racism charges against US professional Harrison

American tennis pros Ryan Harrison and Donald Young are at the centre of a racism investigation at the ATP tournament in New York.

After their first-round match on Monday, the ATP announced a day later that they were investigating “accusations of racist prejudice”. Harrison and the African-American Young had fought a battle of words in the first set, Young had accused his opponent of racist remarks.

“The ATP takes every accusation of racist prejudice extremely seriously,” said an official statement:”An evaluation of all video and audio recordings of the match will take place as the investigation progresses.

Young Harrison, who had won the game 6-3,7-6 (7-4), had previously attacked on Twitter:”I am shocked and disappointed to hear Ryan Harrison, in the middle of our match in New York, what you really think of me as a black tennis player,”the 28-year-old wrote.

Harrison (25) rejected the accusations via Twitter, saying,”The allegations made by Donald Young after our match are completely untrue. I am extremely disappointed that someone is saying this in response to a lost tennis game. Every audio and video recording will relieve me 100 percent.”
