ATP-Challenger/ITF-Round-up: Maximilian Torterer triumphs in Cherbourg

Maximilian Marterer celebrated his sixth Challenger title in Cherbourg/France.

In the finals of the tournament, which was endowed with 43,000 euros, the two seeded torturers defeated Constant Lestienne of France 6:4,7:5 in the final and thus lived up to his favourites following the departure of top seeded Gilles Simon. Former top ten player Simon, currently number 64 in the world, lost surprisingly to Mats Moraing in round two.

For Marterer, the strong 2018 season will therefore continue. At the Australian Open he had celebrated victories at Grand Slam level for the first time and reached the third round, then in Sofia on his way to the quarter-finals his first match wins in the main field of an ATP event. At the moment, Marterer holds his highest position in the world ranking with rank 70. This week he will start in Marseille and meet Simon in round one.

Lukas Ollert also reached a semi-final at the Future tournament in Aktobe/Kazakhstan (US$25,000) and Lena Rüffer made it to the final in the women’s singles in Bergamo/Italy (US$15,000) – including a win over two seeded Martina di Giuseppe.
