The German Fed Cup team returns for the semi-final against Czech Republic on 21. and 22. April to the Porsche Arena in Stuttgart. The duel for the final – the first semi-final at home since 1994 – takes place on clay.
For the seventh time since 2011, the Porsche Team Deutschland will be hosting a home game in the 4,500-seater arena “The players have many positive memories of Stuttgart. Due to the subsequent WTA tournament, the hall offers us ideal conditions. We are looking forward to great fans and a great atmosphere,”says Captain Jens Gerlach, who was sitting on the German bank for the first time at the beginning of February when he won 3-2 in Belarus.
He also looks ahead to the match from a sporting point of view:”The team in Minsk has proven that it is possible to achieve extraordinary victories with fighting spirit and passion. With the Czech Republic, we now face what is perhaps the strongest team in the world, which has dominated the competition for many years. Our goal is still the final.”
With Karolina Pliskova (WTA-No. 5), Petra Kvitova (WTA-No. 9), Angelique Kerber (WTA-No. 10) and Julia Go? rges (WTA-No. 12) the spectators in Stuttgart can look forward to possibly four players from the absolute world leaders.
Görges recently confirmed to tennisnet that she will be competing against the Czech Republic. Barbara Rittner, Head of Women’s Tennis, was also convinced of Kerber’s use.
In the past seven years, the ten-time Fed Cup champion Czech Republic has triumphed a total of five times – in 2011,2012,2014,2015 and 2016. Germany won the competition twice (1987,1992). Both teams meet for the ninth time, the only DTB victory to date dates back to 1987.
While the Porsche Team had defeated Germany in the first round a few weeks ago, the Czech Republic won 3:1 against Switzerland. In the second semi-final France will be confronted by the USA. The Fed Cup Final will take place from 10. till 11. November 2018.
