Serena Williams will be making her comeback on the big tournament stage in Indian Wells this week. Icon Chris Evert trusts her compatriot to win a Grand Slam title in 2018 – and taps Wimbledon. Coach Patrick Mouratoglou even targets the remaining three majors this season.
Hardly any doubts – and high expectations. The tennis celebrity Serena Williams is confident that her daughter Alexis Olympia will make a successful comeback despite her break after her birth. Chris Evert even believes that the 36-year-old will win a Grand Slam tournament this season,”I’d be surprised if she wins two. But I’d bet on her to win one of them,”said the 18-time Associated Press Major Champion of the Associated Press about her compatriot Williams, who is celebrating her return to the tour at this week’s high-calibre event in Indian Wells.
Her last match in a tournament so far was her former number one match in the final of the Australian Open 2017 against her sister Venus. Serena was already pregnant when she won Down Under. With another Grand Slam coup Williams would catch up with the Australian record holder Margaret Court (24 titles).
Evert believes that the younger Williams sister in lawn mecca Wimbledon has the best chance of another triumph,”where strength is rewarded and the rallies are not long. Besides, Serena has this great serve,”said the 63-year-old. However, another success at the US Open in Flushing Meadows will be hard on Williams, Evert believes:”She must be really fit and move well.
Evert is also of the opinion that the few doubters really are driving Williams forward “This gives her even more motivation and is a special attraction. And from such situations she always comes out victorious,”explained the seven-time French Open winner from Florida. Williams coach Patrick Mouratoglou, who has been with Williams for many years, makes no secret of the fact that maybe the best tennis player of all time after her baby break is still pursuing the very highest goals:”Serena knows that it takes time to come back. But their expectations are as high as ever,”said the Frenchman at wtatennis. com, emphasising:”There are still three Grand Slam tournaments this season. These are their three main goals for 2018:” The first stop is Indian Wells!
