The top seeded Roger Federer has caught a nice quarter – Alexander Zverev and Dominic Thiem can’t complain about their draw either.

Drawings may take a long time at some tournaments, in Indian Wells you have found a nice mixture. On the screen in front of the main square there was the tableau of seeded players, into which the remaining players were gradually drawn, while Andrew Krasny greeted the tournament director Tommy Haas and some youngsters, such as Ernesto Escobedo, Andrey Rubley, Taylor Fritz, Alex de Minaur and Stefano Tsitsipas. The expert opinion on the outcome of the draws came from an old acquaintance – Mark Woodforde, the red-haired part of the legendary “Woodies”.
The conclusion at first glance: the Big Names shouldn’t complain about their potential opponents. Roger Federer, like all the other seeded players, has a walk-through for the start, either Ryan Harrison or Federico Delbonis, followed by Filip Krajinovic. In the best case from a Swiss-Austrian point of view, the quarter-finals with Dominic Thiem could take place. The Lichtenwörther gets it in round two either with Stefano Tsitsipas or Radu Albot to do, on the further way Pablo Cuevas and Tomas Berdych could wait.
Alexander Zverev has landed in the lower half of the 128s tableau, waiting for Mikhail Youzhny or Joao Sousa, then possibly Milos Raonic, who is still looking for match practice after his long break. Highest competitor in Zverev’s quarter: Jack Sock, who after his strong final spurt in 2017, does not seem to have arrived in the new season and has only celebrated a victory.
The eagerly awaited Novak Djokovic is seated in tenth place and will meet the winner of two qualifiers in round two, after which Kei Nishikori could be a long wounded player.
In addition to Zverev from a German point of view, Philipp Kohlschreiber is number 31 – he meets Laslo Djere or a qualifier and could take on the two-man Marin Cilic in a win.
In addition, Maximilian Marterer will play against Ivo Karlovic, Mischa Zverev against Mikhail Kukushkin, Peter Gojowczyk against Denis Istomin and Jan-Lennard Struff against Alex de Minaur (the winner will play Juan Martin del Potro).
