WTA: Venus Williams dances like “Petko” in Miami

It wasn’t an anniversary victory. But Venus Williams has given her 62. Matches at the Miami Open will be followed by a special dance. The fans at the million-dollar spectacle in Sunshine State were thrilled.

Andrea Petkovic is actually known for her “Moves”. In 2011 the Darmstadt-based artist developed her “Petko-Dance”, to which she even wrote her own song. Venus Williams probably didn’t want to stand back and now showed her very personal dance at the Miami Open, which went far beyond the usual Venus pirouette. After her 7:5, 6:4 in the second round against Natalia Vikhlyantseva from Russia, the 37-year-old, seated in eighth place in Florida, let her hips circle on her way into the catacombs.

Much to the joy of the fans at the stadium in Crandon Park on the island of Key Biscayne, Petkovic had also been dancing again these days. The 30-year-old discovered a spectator in the stands who celebrated the “Petko-Dance” – and the Hessian, who came into the main field after qualifying, was not asked twice.

After turning match point against Polona Hercog in the first round (6-2, 6-0), the extroverted Petkovic put a snappy foot on the floor and then clapped the lucky fan off. It didn’t bring luck, the 30-year-old failed in the second round due to Daria Gavrilova from Australia, but returns to the top 100 of the world rankings.
