ATP: Surprise in Tokyo’s Double Final

Surprise in the double final of the ATP World Tour 500 tournament in Tokyo: The Japanese pairing Mclachlan/Uchiyama won against Murray/Soares in two sets.

Ben McLachlan had played (and lost) exactly one match on the ATP Tour before Tokyo, bringing home a total prize money of just over 15,000 US dollars.Now, after the incredible final victory against Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares at Yasutaka Uchiyama’s side against Yasutaka Uchiyama, a good 50,000 US dollars will be added to the 500 ATP points, which will catapult McLachlan, born in New Zealand and playing for Japan, solidly into the top 100 doubles players in the world.

McLachlan/Uchiyama had entered the tournament with a wildcard, and in the beginning they had beaten two quite competent double players, Treat Huey and Adil Shamasdin, in the match tiebreak.This was followed by a masterpiece against the reigning US open champions Horia Tecau and Jean-Julien Rojer, and the semi-final task against Santiago Gonzalez and Julio Santiago was relatively easy.
