ATP: Jürgen Melzer eliminated in second qualifying round in Barcelona

Jürgen Melzer was eliminated in the second round of the qualifying tournament for the ATP World Tour 500 event in Barcelona. The Lower Austrian lost to Ilya Ivashka in three sets.

It was Melzer’s second game against Belarus: Last year in the Davis Cup the Austrian routine lost in four sets, again Ivashka won the first set. Melzer countered in the second half, but only kept up in the decisive set at the beginning. After exactly two hours Ivashka had won a place in the main field of the ATP World Tour 500 tournament in the Catalan capital.

From an Austrian point of view Dominic Thiem and Andreas Haider-Maurer are two players represented in the singles. Thiem is seeded in position three, after a walk-through he meets either Joao Sousa or Jaume Munar. Haider-Maurer will play Roberto Carballes Baena in round one.
