ATP: Success for Bernard Tomic (even on the tennis court)

What happens next with Bernard Tomic? After motivation problems and a detour to the jungle camp, “Bernie” seems to try tennis again.

He had never lacked scandals: Arrests for resisting the authorities, parking tickets for frenzy, play on the tennis court. In Wimbledon last year, however, Bernard Tomic had reached his lowest point: His statements that he was bored on the court were a slap in the face for many colleagues and fans.

The camps on how to deal with Tomic were divided: Many found his statements arrogant and disrespectful towards every hard worker; others saw a depressive young man who urgently needed help. Tomic’s problem with everything: the disrespect with which he made his statements.

After the Australian Open in January, it didn’t help much that “Bernie” qualified for the Australian Open in January, but after his retirement he said that he was going home and counting his millions. This was followed by an appearance in the Australian jungle camp (and an early departure). How should tennis continue for the talented Tomic? It was in the stars.

Since then it became quiet around the former world rankings 17th, in his case a good sign. And quite unnoticed, Tomic recently showed up again on tour, even if one floor lower than usual. In March he started with a Challenger in Lille and lost in round one, at the ATP tournament in Istanbul, for which he received a wildcard, was also the end at the beginning.

Last week, the 25-year-old tried his luck at the Challenger in Aix-En-Provence, France – and reached the final where he lost to compatriot John Millman 1:6, 2:6. The entry into the final, however, had a direct impact on the world rankings: Tomic improved from rank 243 to rank 191.

A new start with potential for more? Fans of the fine ball would certainly be pleased.
