Eugenie Bouchard’s in a quiet place. The Canadian tennis starlet at the Hong Kong Open has now commented on her situation.
The young Canadian celebrated her breakthrough in 2014 – after that the 23-year-old drew attention to herself rather off the course.
Three years ago,”Genie” reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open and the French Open.In Wimbledon she even made it to the final, but lost to a powerful Petra Kvitova.Bouchard also celebrated her only title (Nuremberg) in 2014.
Bouchard doesn’t seem to mind that it’s been running mediocre for some time now.In an interview with the South China Morning Post, she said:”I still have an outstanding life.I can’t say it’s hard for me what I’m going through.”
Their situation compares “genius” to other people:”There are people who experience much worse times. And whether my ranking falls from five to 50 – which it has done – or from 50 to 80 still means that I am one of the top 100 best tennis players in the world,”added Bouchard.
Currently, Bouchard is at the Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open.Due to her ranking position 78, the Canadian has been facing difficult first-round opponents for some time now.In Hong Kong, the opening hurdle was Caroline Wozniacki. The Danish player had no mercy and won 6-1 and 6-1.Speaking of ranking: Bouchard was fifth in October 2014.
In addition to the course, the sports-inspired model shone above all with its star-studded airs and negative headlines.Disputes with other colleagues or indifferent behaviour were not uncommon. However, Bouchard seems to have found his way back this season.A strong appearance at the Australian Open and regained tennis fun, the 23-year-old courageously goes into the coming months,”I’ll just keep working hard and try to change things.Above all, I try to relax a bit mentally and not put myself under too much pressure,”explained Bouchard.

Bouchard wants to enjoy the rest of the year and spend a lot of time on the course to improve, says the lady from Montréal.
For the 23-year-old, it was her first appearance in Hong Kong. 2014, she cancelled at short notice and there was a sensation with the President of the Hong Kong Tennis Association, Herbert Chow Siu-lung, who had to resign from office and was fined for making inappropriate comments to Bouchard.”That’s in the past and I would like to let that rest. Now I’m here and I’m happy to be a part of it.I’ve always wanted to play in Hong Kong,”Bouchard admitted before her single opening defeat. She is still in the doubles: Here she will meet Julia Glushko/Priscilla Hon alongside Shelby Rogers.
