French Open: Emotional Timea Bacsinszky withdraws at short notice

Roland Garros’ two-time semi-finalist Timea Bacsinszky announced her withdrawal from this year’s edition.

The Swiss is not getting into gear: severe arthrosis in her middle finger, wrist problems and finally a calf injury, which she suffered while playing in Rabat – Bacsinszky currently has one physical problem after another. A few days ago she seemed optimistic for Paris and tweetted a photo of the training. She wrote that she wanted to decide on the spot whether she would compete. A few hours ago she also posted a photo of herself in front of Court Suzanne Lenglen

Now, then, the decision that it is not enough – “a very hard decision,” says Bacsinszky.

The 28-year-old celebrated her greatest successes to date in Paris and reached the semi-finals in 2015 and 2017. The French Open was a turning point for the world’s former number nine anyway: Bacsinszky had already finished professional tennis in 2013 and wanted to work in the hotel business. When she was informed shortly before the start of qualifying that she was still qualified for this, she arrived spontaneously and started her second and much more successful attempt towards professional tennis.
