French Open: Struff misses third round entry

Jan-Lennard Struff has again missed the first round of a Grand Slam tournament at the French Open in Paris. The 28-year-old lost to Steve Johnson (USA) 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 2-6, 2-6. in his 19th major tournament, Struff failed for the fifth time in round two, losing his opening match 14 times.

World Ranking 71st Struff had started well against 25 places higher noted Johnson, after the close defeat in the tiebreak of the second set but somewhat lost the thread. In the end, the Warsteiner particularly failed due to its high number of avoidable errors. Struff had won his opening match on Monday against the Russian Evgeny Donskoy 6:1, 6:3, 6:0.

So far, the only German in the third round is top player Alexander Zverev (Hamburg/No. 2). On Thursday, his brother Mischa and Maximilian Marterer (Nuremberg) will also be in action. Philipp Kohlschreiber (Augsburg), Florian Mayer (Munich), Oscar Otte (Cologne) and Peter Gojowczyk (Munich) had already retired in the first round.
