French Open: After 0:2 set back: Schwartzman wrestles Anderson

Diego Schwartzman survived a real battle of nerves in the round of the French Open on Monday. The Argentinian beat Kevin Anderson 1- 6, 2-6, 7-5, 7-6(0), 6-2 in the end, despite a 2-0 gap in sets, and has reached the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam for the second time in his career, in Paris for the first time.

It was Schwartzman’s first victory in his third duel with the South African. The 25-year-old may face Rafael Nadal in the last eight, who will face Maximilian Marterer.

Anderson was the dominating man in the game for a long time. After just over an hour he was leading 2-0 in sets and only gave away three games. In the third round, Anderson, who served 19 aces, hit the match at 5-4, but lost the next three games, including section three.

Deja vu then in set four: By an early break to 2:1 Anderson lay in front and had again at 5:4 the possibility to finish the match. But he did not score a single point in the service game and the tiebreak shortly afterwards and had to enter a fifth set.

In the first five games neither player managed his serve before Schwartzman started a 2-2 run and grabbed the last four games.

Schwartzman won another match for the first time in his career after 2-0. It was the third victory against a top 10 player, for the third time against a number 7.
