ATP: Audience favourite Gael Monfils serves up at the Generali Open in Kitzbühel

The Generali Open Kitzbühel is enriched by a charismatic player and international darling of the audience: Gael Monfils will serve from 28 July to 4 August in Kitzbühel.

Besides Dominic Thiem, Fernando Verdasco and Richard Gasquet, another top star, the 31-year-old Frenchman Gael Monfils, now honours Gamsberg. At the French Open in Paris, the organizers of the Generali Open Kitzbühel, above all licensor Octagon, proved their negotiating skills and engaged the French crowd puller for the ATP 250 tournament from July 28 to August 4.

“Thanks to the good contacts of our licensor, we were able to find out early on that Monfils wants to play on sand and that Kitzbühel fits well into his tournament calendar. We are all the more pleased that the negotiations have been positive and that Monfils will open for the first time in Kitzbühel”, said Herbert Günther and Markus Bodner, organizers of the Generali Open Kitzbühel.

It is the Kitzbühel premiere of the former number 6 and current number 37 in the world. Monfils is considered one of the most extroverted players on the tour, always reaches deep into his bag of tricks and causes cheers among the fans with his spectacular rallies. The Frenchman celebrated the last of his seven titles this year in Doha on Hartplatz.

Monfils will make his mark on the Generali Open Kitzbühel in terms of sport, but also in terms of entertainment – tournament director Alexander Antonitsch is convinced of this: “He is one of the absolute favourites of the public, no matter at which tournament, and our fans can look forward to him”.
