French Open: 14-year-old Cori Gauff wins with the juniors

The next US success at the Grand Slam tournaments: Cori Gauff won the juniors’ competition. In the men’s singles, Chun Hsin Tseng from Taiwan won.

The 14-year-old American Cori Gauff has dramatically secured the title with the juniors in Roland Garros: Gauff was trailing her three-year-old compatriot Caty Mcnally with 1:6 and 0:2 and also 0:3 in the third set, but fought her way back into the match and won after 1:57 hours with 1:6, 6:3 and 7:6 (1).

Gauff had already made a great showing at the US Open 2017, but was clearly inferior to the later winner Amanda Anisimova in the semi-finals. Anisimova was not at the start in Paris, she has already left her mark on the WTA tour – with a win against Petra Kvitova in Indian Wells.

Gauff also wrote a small chapter in tennis history: at 14 years of age, she is the fifth youngest winner of a junior major.

Patrick Mouratoglou, the coach of Serena Williams, was also to be found in the box of Gauff on Court 1. Mouratoglou had two reasons to rejoice. In the juniors, Chun Hsin Tseng from Taiwan, who, like Gauff, has close ties with the French star coach and academy operator, won.

Tseng had defeated Sebastian Korda, the son of former top player Petr Korda, in the semi-finals. In the final, Tseng won against Sebastian Baez from Argentina.
