ATP: Dominic Thiem is the hardest worker under the tennis sun

Dominic Thiem has manifested his top position as the most hard-working worker on the ATP tour after the provisional end of the clay court season.

The question of who has shouldered the highest workload in the almost six months of the 2018 ATP season can be easily documented in figures: It’s Dominic Thiem. The Austrian number one leads both the number of matches played (42) and the number of matches won (592).

Thiem has taken part in twelve tournaments, two of them (in Buenos Aires and Lyon). Not to forget: After his injury in the match against Pablo Cuevas in Indian Wells, Thiem had to cancel for the next Masters 1000 tournament in Miami. Also noteworthy: Thiem has only lost two consecutive matches: after his defeat against Alexander Zverev in the Madrid final to start with Fabio Fognini in Rome.

The decisive factor for Dominic Thiem’s success is above all his serve. The 24-year-old has brought 60 percent of his first serves into the field, 76 percent of these points won. No wonder that Thiem has a big lead in the number of service games won in 2018.

But Thiem is also convincing as a recoil. Only Alexander Zverev and Rafael Nadal have won more return games than the Lichtenwörther. The differences are marginal.

However, it is precisely this balance sheet that will be difficult to improve in the coming weeks: At the planned gigs on grass in Halle/Westphalia and Wimbledon, the serves have a clear advantage.
