Davis Cup: Amelie Mauresmo is the first woman to take over France

Former world number one Amelie Mauresmo will be the new team captain of the French Davis Cup team from next year and thus the first woman in the team’s 114-year history.

France’s FFT appointed the 38-year-old as successor to Yannick Noah, who will end his third term in office at the end of the year. Noah had led the Equipe Tricolore to a total of three successes in the world’s most important team competition. In the semi-finals of the current season, France will face Germany’s Spain from 14 to 16 September.

Mauresmo had won the Fed Cup as team manager with the French women’s team in 2015 and 2016. In the men’s business, the 2006 Australian Open and Wimbledon champion was the coach of Olympic champion Andy Murray. “I wouldn’t be here today without Andy. He trusted me when others thought it was a mistake,” said Mauresmo.

The FFT also presented a new team manager of the Fed Cup selection this weekend. Starting next season, former professional Julien Benneteau will take over. The French team had lost 2-3 to the USA in the semi-finals of the current competition – also with Yannick Noah as captain.
