Alexander Zverev’s second round match at the classic in Wimbledon was interrupted on Thursday evening due to the onset of darkness.

At 6:4, 5:7, 6:7 (0:7) against the US youngster Taylor Fritz, the man from Hamburg fights against a threatening out. The match on Court No. 1 on London’s Church Road will now continue on Friday.

Zverev seemed very concentrated at the beginning. An early break to 2-1 was enough for him to win the first set. However, Fritz fought back and managed to take the serve off Zverev for the first time at the end of the second round. With a flawless tie-break in the third set, the 20-year-old is now on the brink of defeat.

On Thursday the German number two Philipp Kohlschreiber (Augsburg/No. 25) had reached the third round. The 34-year-old won against Gilles Muller from Luxembourg with three tie-break wins. Jan-Lennard Struff (Warstein), who will meet defending champion Roger Federer (Switzerland) on Friday, will also be there. The other five German starters were eliminated.
